Despite flash flood warnings and pockets of heavy rain and t-storms scattered around the New England region, about 30 New England Riders turned out (many on four wheels this time) for an enjoyable lunchtime meet-up at the Little Red Smokehouse restaurant in Carver, MA. Lots of long-time members came out of the woodwork and we kept the wait staff busy (and hopefully grateful for a lot of business right at opening when there was nobody else in the joint).

LRS is a great BBQ joint just a couple miles from I-495 and makes a great stop for riding in the area, especially on the way back in from a jaunt on Cape Cod. Good solid smoked meat platters and lots of creative sides and appetizers have kept me coming back to try different dishes. They’ve concocted several dishes using cranberry ingredients, a nod to the local industry. Many of the best back roads around there are lined cranberry bogs, making for  uniquely scenic riding, especially when it’s close to harvest season.

Char and I were running late and just hopped on the interstate for the 30 minute ride down. We dodged most of the showers, though the sky was very active, with isolated rain clouds visible in just about any direction you looked, interspersed with bits of blue sky. There were only a few bikes visible when we arrived, but a horde of NERds was lined up to be the first customers in the door when they opened at 11:30.
I was in the mood for ribs today and leftovers from the the full rack will serve me well for a second meal later this week. The Cheddar Grits were amazing for a side dish, and they have my favorite type of onion ring batter.

The brisket flatbread looked great (and was so, according to reports).

After lunch, we were all invited to view a private collection of vintage motorcycles and related memorabilia at the home of one of our members. I’m no vintage nut, but the collection was beautifully restored and impressive to browse through, while also trying to take in all the bits of Route 66 and other travel keepsakes, OEM manuals, and so forth. It’s so cool to see these older model bikes in near perfect condition and with bright paint jobs, just like they must have looked sitting in the dealerships decades ago.
